Technology

The Raleigh Contact Lens Institute is equipped with advanced technology designed specifically for fitting specialty contact lenses. By focusing on a unique group of patients, we utilize instruments that go far beyond what is typically available at standard eye clinics.

We are proud to offer some of the most cutting-edge diagnostic and fitting tools in the world, helping us deliver the highest level of precision and comfort to our patients.

Technology

The Raleigh Contact Lens Institute is equipped with sophisticated technology for fitting specialty contact lenses. This focus on a very specific type of patients allow for unique and advanced instruments which are beyond what is commonly found in most eye clinics.

We are proud of our cutting-edge instruments, and believe our technology to be some of the most advanced in the world for the type of patients we see.

EyePrintPRO

Free-Form Scleral Contact Lenses for Maximum Performance
For patients who are unable to wear conventional scleral lenses, EyePrintPRO offers a mold-based design with unlimited customization. It is often recommended for patients who struggle to achieve a healthy or comfortable fit with conventional scleral lenses and is especially effective for severe dry eye or severe corneal surface irregularities.

Wavefront-Guided Clarity with OVITZ
xwave Technology

Real-life vision goes beyond what’s measured in the exam room.

Do you have higher order aberrations (HOA)?

You might have HOAs if you experience…

Glare & Flare

Halos

Starburst

Ghosting

Double Vision

Told Your Vision Cannot Improve?

Go Beyond “Your Best” with OVITZ xwave Technology.

Have you been told your vision is “as good as it gets” — even if things still feel blurry, distorted, or uncomfortable? Many patients wearing glasses, gas-permeable lenses, or even scleral lenses continue to experience frustrating visual symptoms like halos, glare, starbursts, or ghosting, especially at night. Often, they’re told nothing more can be done.

While gas-permeable and scleral lenses do an excellent job of smoothing out irregularities on the front of the eye (which can reduce many Higher Order Aberrations or HOAs), they can’t always eliminate them entirely. Residual HOAs are still common, especially in patients with keratoconus, corneal scarring, corneal transplants, or other cases of corneal irregularity.

At the Raleigh Contact Lens Institute, we’re proud to be one of the few practices in the country offering truly customized solutions for these complex visual issues through the OVITZ xwave aberrometer, which helps us go one step further in restoring crisp, comfortable vision.

Pentacam AXL WAVE

This advanced device is available at only a select number of optometry offices nationwide. The Pentacam AXL Wave performs detailed corneal tomography to monitor the progression of corneal conditions, determine candidacy for cross-linking, and guide the precise fitting of custom contact lenses, including orthokeratology and scleral lenses.

Using corneal tomography maps, our doctors design free-form lenses based on thousands of data points—resulting in a truly personalized fit and enhanced visual quality.

Scleral topography allows for highly accurate mapping of the scleral surface (up to 18 mm). Poor scleral lens alignment is the most common cause of discomfort, but this technology ensures exact landing and improved fit.

Scleral topography allows for precise landing of the scleral lens, preventing guess work during the fitting process. In addition, the scleral topography map will optimize fitting over irregular scleral profiles (the majority of scleral profiles are irregular) & scleral lens obstacles such as pterygia, pinguecula, blebs, etc. i.e, no more red eyes! This customization allows patients to have an optimized fit, resulting in comfortable wear.

With the Pentacam AXL Wave software, free-form technology will be utilized for all orthokeratology, corneal gas-permeable, and scleral contact lenses. This allows for total customization of lenses, as each curve of the contact lens will be aligned to the patient’s corneal and scleral elevation and not based on a diagnostic lens fitting.

Biometry enables precise monitoring of axial length changes in patients undergoing myopia management. Even the earliest signs of progression can be detected within one-hundredth of a millimeter.

Wavefront aberrometry is used to design wavefront-guided optics, which can dramatically improve clarity and overall vision quality.  The Pentacam AXL WAVE works in conjunction with OVITZ to correct for higher order aberrations (HOAs).  More information on OVITZ is found here.

Optovue Solix

The Optovue Solix OCT enhances scleral lens fitting by allowing our doctors to carefully evaluate each individual curve of the lens on the eye, ensuring the most precise fit possible.
This technology enables adjustments at the level of microns—one-thousandth of a millimeter. With this remarkable accuracy, the Solix not only helps achieve maximum comfort but also reduces the risk of potential eye damage caused by an improper lens fit.

FireFly Slit Lamp

Enhancing Patient Education with Firefly Technology
The Firefly slit lamp is an excellent tool for patient education. It allows patients to see images of their own eyes, including the meibomian glands and other front-eye structures. This technology helps detect, manage, and treat dry eye disease, while giving patients a clearer understanding of their condition.
