CooperVision’s MiSight 1 Day Contact Lenses are daily wear, single-use contacts that have been shown to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children aged 8 to 12 years old at the start of treatment. Slowing the progression of myopia in children may reduce their risk of developing severe eye diseases such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment and glaucoma later in life. MiSight contact lenses are FDA-approved for myopia control.
Myopia, which typically occurs in school-aged children is an eye condition where nearsightedness likely will continue to increase until the time the child turns about 20. According to the American Optometry Association, 34% of children ages 12-17 are myopic. However, for some ethnicities and groups of individuals the prevalence of myopia may be much higher.
What Are MiSight Contact Lenses?
MiSight contact lenses are daily disposable soft contact lenses designed to slow myopia progression in children. In this unique design, the central part of the MiSight contact lens corrects the refractive error, much like a traditional corrective lens. With MiSight the mid-peripheral part of the lens has uniquely designed concentric rings that direct light to focus on the retina, which has been shown to significantly reduce the stimuli which causes the eye to grow longer, thus slowing the progression of myopia.

Our doctors lecture nationally on the topic of myopia management and are well versed on the various treatment options for myopia, including, but not limited to MiSight, orthokeratology (ortho-k) and the use of atropine.
Our technology is only found in a few offices nationwide, which allows our doctors to provide the best possible results to their myopia management patients. At our office you can expect a very thorough 1.5-2 hour exam which will be spent 100% of the time one-on-one with the doctor. There are several options for myopia management in children, and we will allow plenty of time to explain all potential options.
The safety and effectiveness of MiSight were studied in a 3-year clinical trial of 135 children aged 8 to 12 who were prescribed either MiSight or traditional soft contact lenses. Over the 3-year period, myopia progressed at a much slower rate — by 59% to be exact — in the children who wore MiSight contact lenses compared to the children who wore conventional soft contacts.
These results indicate that MiSight could be an excellent option for slowing myopia progression in your child.

MiSight contact lenses are a great option, but they aren’t for everyone. There are other myopia management options available that the doctor will discuss with you as well. See below for disadvantages of MiSight
- MiSight is worn during the day, so it can be hard to monitor the status of your child’s lens during their daily activities.
- Ill-fitting lenses can cause misalignment of vision zones, since they are standardized for all patients.
- MiSight is not the ideal option for children with moderate astigmatism.
Atropine drops can help children with the slowing of myopia progression, but atropine does not correct a child’s vision. Atropine can be used as a stand-alone, or in conjunction with myopia management treatment options such as ortho-k or MiSight.
