An FDA-Approved Option for Myopia Management

MiSight

- Certified Doctors & Myopia Management Specialists

At the Raleigh Contact Lens Institute, one of our core specialties is providing patients with the most advanced and effective myopia management solutions. Among these, MiSight 1 Day contact lenses are one of our top recommendations.

Developed by CooperVision, MiSight daily disposable contact lenses are FDA-approved and clinically proven to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children ages 8–12 at the start of treatment. By reducing myopia progression, MiSight can help lower the risk of serious eye diseases later in life, including macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and glaucoma.
Myopia typically develops in school-aged children and often worsens until around age 20. According to the American Optometric Association, about 34% of children aged 12–17 are myopic, with even higher prevalence rates among certain ethnic groups. This makes early intervention with proven solutions like MiSight especially important.

What Are MiSight Contact Lenses?

MiSight contact lenses are daily disposable soft contact lenses specifically designed to slow the progression of myopia in children. In this innovative design, the central zone of the MiSight lens corrects the refractive error, just like a traditional contact lens, ensuring clear vision throughout the day.

The mid-peripheral zone of the lens features uniquely designed concentric treatment rings that direct light to focus correctly on the retina. This optical approach has been shown to significantly reduce the visual signals that cause the eye to elongate abnormally, thereby slowing the progression of myopia over time.

MiSight Certified Doctors in Raleigh

At the Raleigh Contact Lens Institute, our doctors are nationally recognized and frequently lecture on the topic of myopia management. They are highly experienced in all major treatment options, including MiSight contact lenses, orthokeratology (Ortho-K), and low-dose atropine therapy.

With access to advanced technology found in only a handful of practices nationwide, we provide some of the most effective and precise care for myopia control. Every patient receives a thorough 1.5–2 hour comprehensive exam, spent entirely one-on-one with the doctor. During this time, we carefully evaluate your child’s vision needs and explain all available options for slowing myopia progression.

The safety and effectiveness of MiSight contact lenses were evaluated in a 3-year clinical trial involving 135 children aged 8 to 12. Participants were prescribed either MiSight or traditional soft contact lenses. Results showed that myopia progression slowed by 59% in children wearing MiSight lenses compared to those wearing conventional soft contacts.

These findings demonstrate that MiSight is a highly effective option for managing myopia in children while also correcting their vision.

  • Dual Benefit – Vision Correction + Myopia Control
MiSight lenses not only provide clear vision but also help slow the progression of nearsightedness.
  • Comfortable to Wear
Designed as soft contact lenses, MiSight offers a comfortable fit suitable for children.
  • Daily Disposable
With single-use daily wear, there’s no need for cleaning or storage, reducing the risk of damage or loss.
  • Clinically Proven
Backed by extensive research and clinical studies, MiSight has proven success in slowing myopia progression.

While MiSight contact lenses are an excellent option for managing childhood myopia, they may not be the right solution for every child. Other myopia management treatments such as orthokeratology (Ortho-K), atropine drops, or scleral lenses may also be recommended by your doctor depending on your child’s specific needs.

Potential disadvantages of MiSight include:

  • Daytime Wear Only – Since MiSight lenses must be worn during the day, it may be harder for parents to monitor how consistently or correctly their child is using them during daily activities.
  • Standardized Lens Design – Because MiSight lenses are manufactured in a standard format, an ill-fitting lens may lead to misalignment of the vision correction zones, reducing effectiveness.
  • Limited for Astigmatism – MiSight may not be the best option for children with moderate to high astigmatism, where other myopia control solutions might provide better results.

Atropine eye drops are often used in pediatric myopia management to help slow the progression of nearsightedness, though they do not directly correct vision. Atropine may be prescribed alone or in combination with advanced options like orthokeratology (ortho-k) or MiSight contact lenses for better long-term control.
